One Killed After Fiery Crash Into Business At Fairfield Shopping Center One person was killed after a vehicle slammed into a business at a Fairfield County shopping center. The incident took place around 3:50 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Thruway Shopping Center located at 1233 East Putnam Ave., in Greenwich, said Captain Mark Zuccerella. Accoding to Zuccerella, the Greenwich Police Department, Greenwich Fire Department, and Greenwich Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the center on the report of a motor vehicle that crashed into a store in the shopping center. Facade Collapses At Long Island Apartment Complex Bricks fell from a facade of a Long Island apartment complex, damaging seven vehicles. The incident took place around 11:18 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at an apartment complex located at 191 Hawthorne Ave., in Central Islip, said the Suffolk County Police. Seven vehicles were damaged. Officials said there were no injuries. The Central Islip Fire Department also responded. The Town of Islip Fire Marshal and Building Inspector was notified.

Request For Donations For Letter Carrier Is A Scam, U.S. Postal Service Says This story has been updated. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new scam asking for donations for a letter carrier in Garrison. According to the United States Postal Inspectors Service, residents are receiving a holiday card in their mailboxes asking for Christmas donations for a letter carrier in Garrison. The request is a scam, the service said. "Don't take the bait, call postal inspectors," they said. If you did receive a card for the request, call 877-876-2455.

Putnam County To Participate In Statewide Stop-dwi Holiday Season Crackdown The Putnam County Sheriff's Office will be taking part in a statewide STOP-DWI holiday season crackdown enforcement effort. The initiative, which runs from Thursday, Dec. 17 to Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, will focus on impaired drivers, said the Sheriff's Office. Joining the sheriff's office will be the Town of Carmel Police and the Kent Police Department, as well as the New York State Police. A 19-car-pileup during the height of the Nor'easter was one of numerous storm-related crashes in the region, although most motorists stayed off roadways. Man Charged With Manslaughter In Death Of Two During Crash Nabbed With Loaded Gun, Police Say A Fairfield County man with a long history with the Stamford Police Department, including being arrested for his involvement in the death of two people during a crash, has been arrested again. Jerry Diaz, 20, of Stamford, was arrested by Stamford Police around 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, in what started as a call for a harassment complaint at 27 High Ridge Road, said Sgt. Jeffrey Booth. Impaired Driver Arrested After Spinning Off Roadway Into House In Area A man allegedly driving while impaired by drugs was arrested after spinning off a Hudson Valley roadway and slamming into a home. Norwalk Public Schools Announce Closure Due To Nor'easter Norwalk Public Schools have announced that due to the unpredictability of an intense Nor'easter, school is canceled for Thursday, Dec. 17. Two-Alarm Fire Destroys Home In Northern Westchester A two-alarm fire destroyed a Northern Westchester home and sent the homeowner to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The fire at 29 Young St., in Lake Mohegan, broke out around noon on Tuesday, Dec. 15. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the home engulfed in flames, said Lake Mohegan Fire District Capt. Thomas Eade. The homeowner, the only person at home at the time, made it out of the burning structure, but suffered smoke inhalation, Eade said.
