Teen Hit, Robbed Female Victim In Wallkill, Police Say A Middletown teen was arrested Wednesday for robbing a woman sitting in a car after striking her in the face, according to the town of Wallkill Police. The arrest of Keyaira Carter, 18, stems from an incident that took place around 10 p.m. Dec. 22, when Wallkill Police Office Julia Ashworth responded to a report of a robbery on Maple Field Drive, said Chief Robert Hertman. According to the victim, she was sitting in her car when she was approached by Carter and others. Carter struck the victim in the face while removing her property, Hertman said. Walkway Over Hudson Will Suspend Elevator Service Those looking to start the New Year off right by joining the annual First Day Hike at the Walkway Over the Hudson should take note that elevator service at the bridge will be suspended on Jan. 1 for the winter months. According to the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation elevator service will be suspended until April 1. The walkway will be open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset, they added. Beekman Residents Will Be Able To Prepay 2018 Town Taxes Beekman residents worried about the recent tax law passed by Congress and how it will affect their taxes next year can prepay their 2018 town taxes in just a few simple steps, according to the Dutchess County government. Residual Traffic On TZB After Lanes Reopen Following Crash There is residual traffic on the southbound (Westchester-bound) new Tappan Zee Bridge span after two lanes reopened following a late Thursday afternoon crash. The crash occurred midspan shortly before 4 p.m., initially shutting down the two lanes and backing up traffic well into Rockland County, officials said. 5 Injured In Crash Involving Truck, Car Near Cross Country Shopping Center Five people received injuries in a traffic crash near the Cross County Shopping Center, according to the Yonkers Police Department. The crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. Thursday at 800 Central Park Ave., when a truck slammed into a vehicle, police said. Newly Approved Port Jervis Budget Will Increase Monthly Tax Bill Port Jervis homeowners will see an increase in their monthly tax bill after the Common Council passed the 2018 budget Wednesday that includes an 8.13 percent tax hike. On a 6-3 vote, the council passed the $15,722,779 budget, said City Clerk-Treasurer Robin Waizenegger. “Each percentage point of tax increase will cost the average homeowner $1.14 per month,” said Waizenegger, based on an assessed home value of $50,000, with a market value of $119,048. Pine Plains Man Nabbed For Robbing Neighbor, Sheriff Says A 26-year-old Dutchess County man is behind bars for forcibly robbing his neighbor of $40 in cash while at their home, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. Zachary MacIssac of Pine Plains was arrested at 6 p.m. Tuesday after sheriff deputies responded to a home on Hillside Village Road in Pine Plains for a report of a neighbor dispute, said Capt. John Watterson. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the incident was actually a robbery and that money had been taken. Woman Nabbed Shoplifting $2,216 In Makeup At Palisades Mall, Police Say A 29-year-old woman was nabbed shoplifting more than $2,000 worth of makeup by a store security guard at the Palisades Mall in Nyack, Clarkstown Police said. Alyssa Roberts of Montgomery was caught around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the Sephora store, according to Clarkstown Police spokesman Peter Walker. Once officers arrived on scene they found merchandise valued at $2,216 that included various cosmetic items, Walker said. Roberts was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. Teen Crashes Stolen Car In Police Chase Through Two Orange County Towns A 19-year-old car thief was nabbed after taking police from two Orange County towns on a high-speed chase before crashing into two parked cars and then attempting to flee on foot, police said.
