Con Artist Scams Stamford Woman Of $9K, Police Say
A man was arrested for scamming a 90-year-old Stamford woman out of $9,000, Stamford Police said.
Luis A. Hiraldo-Fernandez, 31, of Hackensack, was picked up by members of the Stamford Department Financial Crimes Unit on a warrant connected to the scam.
Hiraldo-Fernandez is suspected in the participation of a phone scam against a 90-year-old female which defrauded her of $9,000 while posing as an acquaintance, police said.
With the joint cooperation of the Fairlawn New Jersey Police Department, Hiraldo-Fernandez was extradited to and held on a $50,000 court set bond and given a court date …
Hudson Valley Man Pleads Guilty To Using Companies To Embezzle Millions
A former comptroller pleaded guilty in federal court to embezzling more than $2.5 million from two Hudson Valley manufacturing companies, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
Mark Cina, 56, of Pleasant Valley, pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony mail fraud and tax evasion, the office said.
Cina admitted to embezzling the money from two companies in the Town of Poughkeepsie over the course of approximately seven years, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Woman Stole More Than $7K at Resorts World Catskills, Police Say
A woman was arrested for stealing more than $7,000 from a guest at the Resorts World Catskills Casino, according to New York State Police.
Andrea Mercer, 33, of the Bronx, was charged with grand larceny Wednesday following an investigation into the theft of the money, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
Mercer, a guest at the casino herself, entered the room of another guest at the casino and stole more than $7,000 from that individual, Nevel said.
Mercer was arraigned remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $7,500 cash bail.
