Bear Fact: Police Tranquilize Bruin Seen On 9W In Rockland Near McDonald's For the second time in a week, the Haverstraw Police Department spent time tracking down a black bear roaming the town. Friday's visitor was seen trotting down Route 9W in the area of McDonald’s. The bear ultimately found its way into a backyard on Farley Drive in West Haverstraw, the police department said. Officers responded to the scene to ensure the safety of the bear and the residents in the area. Stamford Man In Need Of Kidney Dialysis Given Stay Of Deportation A Stamford man who was on the verge of being deported to Hondorus despite having serious kidney disease has received a six-month reprieve from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. “While this is welcome news, a six-month stay is not enough, especially considering that the hospital cannot perform the kidney transplant necessary to keep Mr. Santos alive without at least a year of post-op recovery time," Malloy said. Man Caught Speeding Under The Influence, New Canaan Police Say A New Canaan man was busted for driving under the influence after officers spotted him speeding. Clayton Burt, 20, was arrested early Friday after an officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling 60 mph in a posted 40 mph speed zone, said New Canaan Lt. Jason Ferraro. While speaking with Burt during the stop, the officer detected signs of impairment and a field sobriety test was administered which he failed, Ferraro said. Wanted Man Caught After Chase On I-84, Route 312 A Poughkeepsie man who police thought could be a threat to himself or others was nabbed after taking officers on a high-speed chase. Stephen Tillery, 34, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. Friday on various charges after failing to stop for Dutchess County Sheriff's deputies attempting to stop him, Capt. John Watterson said. Driver Hospitalized After Car Slams Into Pole In Danbury A driver who had to be extricated from a vehicle after slamming into a power pole in Danbury was injured in the crash. The crash occurred around 11:18 p.m. Thursday on Town Hill Avenue near Clark Street after the driver lost control and hit the pole, said James Gagliardo, of the Danbury Fire Department. Woman Charged In Fatal Stamford Crash After Turning Herself In A Stamford woman has been arrested in a fatal crash that killed an 81-year-old local woman while she was walking through a parking lot in March.
