She worked four years at Hometown News as a general assignment reporter, then another two years at Spacecoast Daily in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Suspects On Loose After 89-Year-Old Woman Assaulted In Nanuet Police are asking for the public's help in locating the man or men who attacked an 89-year-old Nanuet woman. The woman was attacked in the area of College Avenue and 1st Street in Nanuet sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday, to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, said Clarkstown PD Officer Peter Walker. The woman, who received non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to a local hospital for treatment but was not able to provide much information, he added. Boy Injured By Neighbor's Fireworks Rushed To Westchester Medical Center A 47-year-old man is facing charges after an 8-year-old boy was injured by fireworks the man was detonating in the area, police said. The child was injured 9:25 p.m. Wednesday on Demarest Mill Road in West Nyack, according to Clarkstown Police Officer Peter Walker. When police arrived on the scene they found the child with an injury below his eye. Nanuet Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the boy and his father, who was with the child at the time of the incident, to Westchester Medical Center for medical attention, Walker said. Fire Breaks Out At Norwalk Business Strip A fire at a Variety store in a strip mall on Main Street in Norwalk spread throughout the building early Thursday. Norwalk firefighters responded around 2:30 a.m. at 61 Main St., for a reported structure fire, according to Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief Todd Smith. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the Variety store and after the initial attack crews made entry and found heavy fire in the rear of the building that was quickly extinguished, Smith said. Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Bernard Mendoza Promoted Orange County Sheriff Carl E. DuBois recently presided over the promotion ceremony of Deputy Bernard Mendoza to Sergeant. Mendoza has been with the department for more than 12 years and has been a member of Investigations, Bike Patrol, Boat Patrol, ATV, Honor Guard and Field Training. "Sheriff DuBois and the entire OCSO would like to congratulate Sergeant Mendoza and wish him the best of luck," the department said on Facebook.

Wake Scheduled For Man Killed In Northern Westchester House Fire A 53-year-old man killed in a fire at his Northern Westchester will be remembered during a visitation on Monday, July 9. Frank Fonte was found unconscious around 5 p.m. Sunday by Yorktown Heights firefighters and was pronounced dead a short time later at his home at 1789 Baldwin Road. Yorktown Police could not confirm the identity until they receive forensic verification and await investigation results, but services have been scheduled for Fonte. Woman Hits Boyfriend Over Head With Coffee Pot, Stamford Police Say A Stamford woman was arrested for smashing an empty glass coffee pot over her boyfriend's head during a domestic dispute, police said. Johanna Garcia, 45, was arrested early Tuesday morning after Stamford Police responded to a home on Woodland Place for a report of a man hit with a bottle, said Sgt. Rhett Connelly. When officers arrived on scene they found the 48-year-old boyfriend with a large cut on his neck that required several stitches, Connelly said. Pickup Truck Displaying Confederate Flag Sparks Concern In New Canaan Many New Canaan residents are a bit on edge these days after seeing a pickup truck that is driving around town with a large Confederate flag. The talk about the truck and its driver has been circulating on Facebook chat rooms and among neighbors. One Facebook poster said the truck has been driving "aggressively" around town. Police: 20-Year-Old Hits Cop After Greenwich Dad Calls To Get Stolen Money A 20-year-old man was busted for assaulting a police officer after punching the cop several times in the head during an arrest attempt, said Greenwich Police. Constantino Faria of Greenwich was arrested around 9 p.m. Monday after officers were called to a report of a father and son arguing over stolen money, said Lt. John Slusarz.
