Kathy Reaks has worked as a reporter in the local news business since 1984, starting as a news clerk and working her way up. She spent 17 years at Florida Today in Melbourne, Florida as a general assignment reporter, crime reporter, entertainment reporter and restaurant critic. She worked four years at Hometown News as a general assignment reporter, then another two years at Spacecoast Daily in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She attended Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida.

Man Stopped In Stony Point With 24 License Suspensions A man was nabbed in Stony Point with 24 active suspensions on his New York driver's license. Yandoll Cortorreal, 30, of Manhattan, was stopped by Stony Point Police around 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 4 on Willow Grove road with temporary Texas license plates and unsafe tires, said Lt. Daniel Hylas.  During the stop, the officer found that in addition to 24 suspensions, on 16 separate dates, Cortorreal was also wanted by the NYPD for felony aggravated unlicensed of a vehicle, Hylas said. Man Killed After Car Crashes Into CT House A Connecticut man died after losing control of his car and crashing into a home on Wednesday night. Christopher Cannizzaro, 51, of Tolland, died around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after hitting the home at 85 Charles Street in Tolland, said Connecticut State Police. According to state police, Cannizzaro was traveling north on Deerwood Road, continued through the intersection onto the Charles Street property and into the home. Serious Westchester School Bus Crash Sends Numerous Riders To Hospitals Mulitple people have been hospitalized following a crash between a small school bus and a car in Scarsdale. Scarsdale dispatchers said the crash that occurred around 4:30 p.m. Friday, has blocked traffic in the area at Fenimore Road and Brite Avenue. ID Released For Woman Hit, Killed By Metro-North New Haven Line Train A woman who was killed by a Metro-North New Haven Line train Thursday night has been identified, according to the MTA. Tricia Plotnik, 35, of Milford, was hit around 9 p.m. by a Grand Central-bound train just east of the Milford train station, said MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan. The incident caused delays, but MTA officials don't believe any criminal activity was involved. MTA police are investigating the incident, Donovan said.

School Bus Overturns In Valley Cottage First responders are on the scene of a school bus crash in Valley Cottage, according to the Clarkstown Police Department. The bus, with only the driver aboard, overturned around 4:10 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Snake Hill and Crusher roads, police said. There are reports of minor injuries. Man Driving Car Stolen By Woman Collides With Two CT State Police Cruisers A man driving a car stolen by his passenger took Connecticut State police on a wild chase, damaging two police cruisers before finally being stopped. John Rogers, 28, of Hartford was arrested early Friday after troopers observed him traveling at a high rate of speed in the stolen vehicle, said Trooper Kelly Grant. Lightning Strike Hospitalizes Three In Area A lightning strike on Lake Mahopac sent three people out boating to the hospital and slightly injured another. The incident took place around 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 when Putnam County Sheriff's Sgt. Matthew Monroe of the department's Marine Patrol Unit responded to a report of an occupied disabled boat on Lake Mahopac, the department said. During heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes Monroe was able to locate the disabled vessel, near the northwest corner of the lake.
