Kathy Reaks has worked as a reporter in the local news business since 1984, starting as a news clerk and working her way up. She spent 17 years at Florida Today in Melbourne, Florida as a general assignment reporter, crime reporter, entertainment reporter and restaurant critic. She worked four years at Hometown News as a general assignment reporter, then another two years at Spacecoast Daily in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She attended Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida.

Man Stopped In Stony Point With 24 License Suspensions A man was nabbed in Stony Point with 24 active suspensions on his New York driver's license. Yandoll Cortorreal, 30, of Manhattan, was stopped by Stony Point Police around 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 4 on Willow Grove road with temporary Texas license plates and unsafe tires, said Lt. Man Killed After Car Crashes Into CT House A Connecticut man died after losing control of his car and crashing into a home on Wednesday night. Christopher Cannizzaro, 51, of Tolland, died around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after hitting the home at 85 Charles Street in Tolland, said Connecticut State Police. ID Released For Woman Hit, Killed By Metro-North New Haven Line Train A woman who was killed by a Metro-North New Haven Line train Thursday night has been identified, according to the MTA. Tricia Plotnik, 35, of Milford, was hit around 9 p.m. by a Grand Central-bound train just east of the Milford train station, said MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan. The incident caused delays, but MTA officials don't believe any criminal activity was involved. MTA police are investigating the incident, Donovan said.

Lightning Strike Hospitalizes Three In Area A lightning strike on Lake Mahopac sent three people out boating to the hospital and slightly injured another. The incident took place around 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 when Putnam County Sheriff's Sgt. Matthew Monroe of the department's Marine Patrol Unit responded to a report of an occupied disabled boat on Lake Mahopac, the department said.
