Bear Struck, Killed On Highway In Fairfield County A bear was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-84 in Newtown on Saturday, causing minor injuries to the occupants.  According to Chris Collibee, a spokesman for DEEP,  the department was notified by the state police that the 80-pound untagged bear was hit around 7 p.m. on the westbound side of the roadway. 10 Displaced Following Bridgeport Fire Ten people were left homeless following a fire at the Crescent Crossing apartment complex in Bridgeport on Sunday morning. Old Greenwich Woman Held On Intentional Cruelty To Persons Charges A 40-year-old woman was arrested for intentional cruelty following a months-long investigation by the Special Victims Unit. Evelyn Stowell of Old Greenwich was arrested Monday, July 2 on a warrant and charged with intentional cruelty to persons, the risk of injury to a child, and assault, following the investigation which began in April, an arrest report says. Greenwich Police officials said due to the nature of the crime, they could not release additional information. Stowell is being held on $25,000 bond.
