Fairfield County Man Nabbed With Three Warrants A 49-year-old Fairfield County man got quite a surprise when he stepped off a Greyhound bus in Waterbury Police officers with the handcuffs ready. Fredrick Kushpinsky of Shelton was arrested Monday by Shelton Police on three outstanding warrants for failure to appear and a warrant with eight counts of violating a protective order, said Det. Bear Struck, Killed On Highway In Fairfield County A bear was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-84 in Newtown on Saturday, causing minor injuries to the occupants. According to Chris Collibee, a spokesman for DEEP, the department was notified by the state police that the 80-pound untagged bear was hit around 7 p.m. on the westbound side of the roadway. "Bears being struck by vehicles is extremely common with roughly 50 to 60 per year being hit," Collibee said. Four Women Nabbed In $35K Fairfield County Substance Abuse Kickback Scheme Four women were arrested by Connecticut State Police for taking part in a Fairfield County substance abuse kickback scheme that netted them $35K. An investigation into the scheme began in November 2017 after the state police Major Crime Squad received information of the suspected misuse of state funds within a substance abuse treatment program called Access to Recovery, state police said. Alleged Teen Car Thieves Nabbed Following Chase, Crash, Greenwich PD Says Two teens were nabbed for stealing two cars and then crashing them, while a few others got away, according to the Greenwich Police. The incident took place around 3:15 a.m. Sunday when officers on patrol in the area of South Beach Avenue and West End Avenue saw two vehicles that had been reported stolen fly through a red light, said Lt. 10 Displaced Following Bridgeport Fire Ten people were left homeless following a fire at the Crescent Crossing apartment complex in Bridgeport on Sunday morning. The fire started around 10:49 a.m. at the complex at 160 Church St., said Michael A. Caldaroni, assistant fire chief with the Bridgeport Fire Department. When crews arrived they located a kitchen fire in apartment #413 that had been extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system. Greenwich Man Killed, Two Stamford Men Seriously Injured In I-95 Crash A Greenwich man was killed and two other men from Stamford were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on I-95 early Monday. Woman 23, Charged In Route 15 Crash That Killed Fairfield County Resident A 23-year-old woman who had a blood alcohol content at twice the legal limit has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a man during a crash on Route 15. Old Greenwich Woman Held On Intentional Cruelty To Persons Charges A 40-year-old woman was arrested for intentional cruelty following a months-long investigation by the Special Victims Unit. Evelyn Stowell of Old Greenwich was arrested Monday, July 2 on a warrant and charged with intentional cruelty to persons, the risk of injury to a child, and assault, following the investigation which began in April, an arrest report says. Greenwich Police officials said due to the nature of the crime, they could not release additional information. Stowell is being held on $25,000 bond.
