Stranded Pair Pulled From Water After Boat Sinks In Westchester Two people were rescued from the water off New Rochelle after their boat hit a rock, stranding them in the water. The incident took place around 8:10 p.m. Wednesday near Glen Island Park, said New Rochelle Police Capt. J.C. Coyne. Home Catches Fire After Lightning Strike In Putnam A house struck by lightning in Putnam County during a thunderstorm on Wednesday was saved by firefighters with the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Car Slams Into Pole, Injuring Seven Women In Westchester Seven young women were rushed to a local hospital after the vehicle they were riding in slammed into a telephone pole in Westchester. The crash occurred around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday on Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers, Police Lt Michael Hanley said. All seven of the women received non-life threatening injuries, Hanley said. The roadway was closed for a short time for a crash investigation, Hanley said. First responders had to cut their way into the 2011 Nissan to rescue some of the women, officials said. Hanley said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

5-Year-Old Drowns In Fairfield County Backyard Pool, Police Say This story has been updated. A 5-year-old child is dead after drowning in the family's backyard pool in Fairfield County, police said. Police were called to the home on Sunnybank Avenue in Stratford for a report of a child drowned in the pool on Tuesday, July 3, said Capt. Frank Eannotti. When officers arrived on scene, they performed CPR until EMS arrived and transported the child to a local hospital, where the child died. Boy Injured By Neighbor's Fireworks Rushed To Westchester Medical Center A 47-year-old man is facing charges after an 8-year-old boy was injured by fireworks the man was detonating in the area, police said.
