Long Island Expressway Reopens Following Crash Involving Police Cruiser This story has been updated. A stretch of the Long Island Expressway has reopened after being closed for several hours following a crash between two vehicles and a Suffolk County Police cruiser. The crash took place eastbound around 12:35 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, near Exit 52 in Commack, said a spokeswoman for the Suffolk County Police. Motorcycle Crash Leaves 17-Year-Old Girl Severely Injured A 17-year-old girl was severely injured after losing control of a motorcycle she was driving. The crash took place around 3:25 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14 in Dutchess on Manor Road in the town of Red Hook, said the Red Hook Police Department on Facebook. When Red Hook officers arrived on the scene they located the 17-year-old female semiconscious and suffering from serious injuries from the crash. The girl was transported to Northern Dutchess Hospital by Northern Dutchess Paramedics where it was determined she suffered two broken femurs and had a serious head injury, the department said. …

Long Island Man Pleads Guilty To Using Long Island Home To Produce Ecstasy, Grow Pot An electrician with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection has pleaded guilty to using a stash house on Long Island to produce ecstasy and grown marijuana. Joseph Guida, 45, of Elmhurst, entered his plea on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the federal courthouse in Central Islip. Darien Becomes Third Fairfield County Municipality To Test Positive For EEE Virus A third Fairfield County municipality has reported mosquitoes collected have tested positive for the eastern equine encephalitis or EEE. Despite the cooler temperatures, the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) reported that mosquitoes collected from Sept. 30 to Oct. 10, in Darien were positive for the deadly virus. EEE-infected mosquitoes had previously been found in Shelton and Stamford. Customer Injured When Car Drives Through Front Of Area Big Y Supermarket, Police Say One person was injured after a car hit a Big Y supermarket in Fairfield County. The incident took place in Stratford around 11:56 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, when Stratford Police responded to the store on Hawley Lane to investigate a car that struck the building, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a car had driven through the front bay door and struck a customer, he said. The injured customer was transported to a local hospital with non- life-threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation.

Woodbury Common Worker Killed By Truck He Was Guiding Into Loading Area, Report Says An employee at Woodbury Common Shopping Outlet in New York was killed after he was hit by a truck as he was attempting to guide it into a loading area. Habram Castillo, 40 of New York City, was fatally pinned by the vehicle delivering goods to the Tory Burch store on Tuesday, Oct. 15, News 12 reports. Worker Killed After Being Struck By Truck At Woodbury Common An employee at Woodbury Common Shopping Outlet was killed after being hit by a truck. The incident took place Tuesday, Oct. 15, when the worker was attempting to guide a truck into a loading area and was accidentally pinned at the outlet in Woodbury, reported News 12. Off-Duty Nypd Officer Takes Own Life In Queens An off-duty NYPD sergeant shot and killed himself at his Queens home, marking the 10th NYPD officer to do so this year. Two Area Residents Accused Of Selling Tainted Heroin Two Highland residents are behind bars after being popped for allegedly selling heroin laced with Fentanyl. Casey A. Kurtz, 27, and Kyla Knowlton-Romanelli, 30, were arrested Friday, Oct. 11, following a long-term investigation by the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team into sales of heroin laced with Fentanyl in the Town of Lloyd, said the Ulster County Sheriff's Office.
