Monsey Hanukkah Attack Suspect Incompetent To Stand Trial, Psychiatrist Says A psychiatrist hired by to evaluate Grafton Thomas, the man charged in a machete attack at a rabbi's house, has found he is incompetent to stand trial, his defense attorney said. In a statement on Monday, Jan. 27, his attorney Michael Sussman said that Dr. Andrew Levin found that "Mr. Thomas was not competent to stand trial." Thomas, of Greenwood Lake in Orange County, is charged with federal hate crimes for the Dec. 28 attack on attendees of a Hanukkah party at the rabbi's Monsey home that left a 72-year-old man in a coma. Police Investigating Theft Of Wallet With $1K From Unlocked Vehicle In Northern Westchester Police are investigating a theft from an unlocked vehicle in Northern Westchester. Officers responded to Washington Street in Peekskill for a report of a robbery around 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, said Peekskill Police Lt. Jack Galusha. After a brief interview with the victim police found that a wallet with approximately $1,000 had been taken from inside the unlocked vehicle, Galusha said. One Killed In Two-Vehicle Crash On Northern State Parkway, Police Say One person was killed during a two-vehicle crash on the Northern State Parkway. The crash took place in Nassau County around 9 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, near the Town of North Hempstead, said the New York State Police. A preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred when a 2016 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound, struck the rear of a 2017 Dodge Durango traveling in the right lane, state police said. Popular Long Island HS Teacher/Coach Dies At 42 After Battling Cancer The Sachem community is mourning the loss of Matt "Dezy" DiStefano, a Sachem High School North teacher and popular volleyball coach, who died from kidney cancer. DiStefano, of Ronkonkoma, died Monday, Jan. 27, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. He was 42.
