Malfunctioning Boiler Causes Roof Fire In Westport Westport firefighters were able to quickly douse a roof fire caused by a malfunctioning boiler. The fire started around 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30 at a home on Crooked Mile Road, said the Westport Fire Department. Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly and found that the fire was contained to the roof and was likely caused by the malfunctioning boiler.  No injuries were reported.

Man Struck, Killed By Lirr Train A man was killed after being struck by a Long Island Railroad train. The man was hit west of Farmingdale around 9:15 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, by a non-passenger train west of Ronkonkoma, said MTA officials. Due to the incident, service was terminated on the Ronkonkoma Branch before being restored shortly before 11 a.m. MTA officials said no criminality was involved with the incident. The incident took place before midnight on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the  Ashar School in New City, located at 360 New Hempstead Road, said Clarkstown Police Officer Norman Peters. Truck Fire Causes I-84 Lane Closure A stretch of I-84 has reopened after tractor-trailer fire. The fire started around 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31 eastbound in Montgomery, said the New York State Police. There were no injuries but the highway was closed for a short time while the fire was extinguished, said Trooper Steven Nevel. Nevel said as of 12:30 p.m., only the one exit ramp lane at Exit 28 is still blocked.  An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.

Teen Charged In Attack On Mentally Disabled Man, Bridgeport Police Say A 15-year-old teen has been charged with assaulting a mentally-disabled man following the shooting death of another teen. The unprovoked attack took place on Sunday, Jan. 26, immediately after the shooting and homicide on Highland Avenue in Bridgeport, said Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.
