Multi-Vehicle Crash Injuries Three After Driver Falls Asleep At Wheel In Rockland, Police Say A three-vehicle crash in Rockland County on Route 202 occurred after one of the drivers allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle. The crash took place on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Pomona Section of Ramapo, said the Ramapo Police. An initial investigation found that a black sedan was heading east when it crossed the double yellow line and struck two silver sedans that were traveling westbound, police said. Police Asking For Help Identifying Duo Who Robbed Dick's Sporting Goods In Area Police are asking the public for help identifying two men involved in an alleged robbery of almost $3K in merchandise from Dick's Sporting Goods in Fairfield County. The incident took place on Monday, Oct. 26, when the men entered the store located on Connecticut Avenue and stole $2,907 of merchandise, said Norwalk Police Lt. Jared Zwickler. CT Felon Sentenced For Possessing Loaded Rifle An area man was sentenced to 37 months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm. Manuel A. Gomez, 31, of Hartford, was sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 28, by U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall in New Haven to the prison term which will be followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally possessing a firearm. Three Busted Dealing Drugs At Hotel In Fairfield County Three men were nabbed along with a juvenile during the execution of two search warrants in connection with drug trafficking at a Fairfield County hotel. Village In Westchester Appoints First Female Police Chief A village in Westchester has appointed its first female police chief. The Village of Mamaroneck’s Board of Trustees announced that Lt. Sandra DiRuzza was named as the village’s Provisional Police Chief. DiRuzza succeeds current Village of Mamaroneck Police Chief Christopher Leahy, who is retiring after a 30-year-career in law enforcement. DiRuzza will be the only woman leading a Westchester police department. Her appointment will be provisional until she takes a civil service exam. Man Charged With Theft Of Copper Piping From Numerous Area Homes One person has been arrested in connection with a series of residential burglaries that involved the theft of copper piping. Ulster County resident Eric Morgan, 30, of Modena, was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 28 by detectives with the New Paltz Police Department for the burglaries that occurred in both the Village and Town of New Paltz between Sept. 13 and Oct. 23, said New Paltz Police Lt. Fairfield County Woman Nabbed Stealing $125 In Liquor From Store, Police Say A 37-year-old Fairfield County woman was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $125 worth of liquor from an area liquor store. Amanda Belcher, of Bridgeport, was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 25, after Milford Police responded to Wines and More at 242 Boston Post Road, in Milford on the report of a shoplifting, said the Milford Police. Belcher had left the scene but was located a short time later and arrested and charged with larceny, and a number of motor vehicle violations. She was released on a promise to appear ticket.

Covid-19: School In Area Goes To Remote Learning After Positive Case A school in the area has returned to remote learning for at least 24 hours after a person tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Wappingers Central School District, the person associated with Gayhead Elementary School in Hopewell Junction tested positive for COVID on Sunday, Oct. 25, and is currently in isolation. Covid-19: Communicable Disease Clinic In Fairfield County Closes Temporarily Due To Two Cases The Fairfield County Communicable Disease Clinic announced its temporary closure after two city employees tested positive for COVID-19. Health Director Lisa Morrisey said the closure follows quarantine and isolation protocols to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within the offices and among personnel. DEA Agent Shoots Man While Attempting To Serve Gun-Related Federal Warrant At Rockland Hotel One person was shot by a Drug Enforcement Administration agent as the agency attempted to serve a federal warrant on two suspects at a Rockland County hotel.
