Off-Duty Long Island Firefighter Pulls Man From Burning Car An off-duty Long Island fire lieutenant is being credited for saving a man's life from a burning vehicle.  The incident took place shortly after 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, when Ronkonkoma Fire Department Lt. Man Nabbed Stealing Commercial Hedge Trimmer From Driveway Of Long Island Home A Long Island man was arrested after being caught on video surveillance allegedly stealing a commercial-grade hedge trimmer from a driveway. Joseph Rhodes, 57, of Greenport, was arrested around 8:56 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, by Southold Police after the owner of the hedge trimmer saw the victim on his property removing the item from a trailer, said the Southold Police.  A Southold police officer was able to identify  Rhodes and he was located a short distance away, where he admitted to stealing the trimmer, police said. Rhodes was arrested and charged with petit larceny.

Davis Omar Roman Villanueva, 32, of Meriden, was flown from Puerto Rico on Monday, Nov. 30, to face charges for the October killing of Casey Schoonover, 34, Meriden Police said. Abandoned Beagle Seen Being Pushed Out Of Jeep In Area The Putnam County SPCA is seeking information regarding the abandonment of an adult female beagle.  On Tuesday, Dec. 1, around 1 p.m., a delivery driver observed an individual push the dog out of an older model, Black Jeep Wrangler onto the side of Route 301, in the Town of Carmel, said the SPCA. Man Stole More Than $1K From Cash Register At Store In Area, Police Say A 29-year-old man was busted for allegedly stealing more than $1,000 from an area BJ's Wholesale store. Orange County resident Justin Kirton, of Walden, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 3, by New York State Police, said Trooper Steven Nevel. According to Nevel, while Kirton was an employee at BJ’s Wholesale in Monroe, he stole allegedly $1,250 from the cash register over a period of two months.  He was charged with grand larceny and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Monroe Court on Monday, Dec. 14.

The woman jumped from the bridge around 9 a.m, Monday, Dec. 7, near Tarrytown, said the New York State Police.
