Man Walking Into Traffic Nabbed With Loaded Handgun On Long Island A Long Island man was arrested for alleged possession of a loaded handgun after he was stopped for walking into oncoming traffic. Eury Pimentel-Torres, 23, of Freeport, was arrested by Nassau County Police around 1:12 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, in Roosevelt, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, plainclothes officers saw Pimentel-Torres cross Nassau Road at the intersection of Taylor Avenue causing oncoming traffic to abruptly stop. Community Rallies For Teen Who Tried To Defend Friend In Fatal Northern Westchester Stabbing A Northern Westchester community is rallying around a local family whose son was stabbed trying to protect his friend who was killed during the attack. Alex Leon, 18, of Peekskill, was severely injured on Saturday, Nov. 28, attempting to defend and protect his friend Joaquin Salazar who died from his injuries. Leon, who is the son of Franki Leon, the owner of Franki's Grill in Croton on Hudson, was also stabbed. Covid-19: More Cases Cause New Closures At Norwalk Schools New cases of COVID-19 have caused the Norwalk Public School District to move two additional schools to all remote learning. The move comes after the Norwalk Public Schools District was notified on Wednesday, Dec. 9, of new positive COVID-19 cases at two schools. Covid-19: Worker At Resorts World Tests Positive Visitors to the Resorts World Catskills are being warned of possible COVID-19 exposure after one of the casino's employees tested positive for the virus. The Sullivan County Public Health Services has confirmed that the Resorts World Catskills employee tested positive for COVID. There is currently no indication that the employee contracted the virus at the casino or impacted anyone else, the department said. State Seeks $70M In Damages From Pseg Long Island For Tropical Storm Isaias Response Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced the Long Island Power Authority has filed legal action against PSEG Long Island for breach of contract and its performance in response to Tropical Storm Isaias. Large House Fire In Fairfield County Has Closed Roadway A large house fire in Fairfield County has closed a busy roadway in the area. The Monroe Fire Department was called to the scene of the fire around 10:24, Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 138 Hattertown Road in Monroe. First arriving units found the home fully engulfed in flames, said Lt. Stephen Corrone, of the Monroe Police Department. Renowned 'New Yorker' Cartoonist Faces Child Porn Charge In Hudson Valley A cartoonist famous for his work in the "New Yorker," has been arrested in the Hudson Valley for alleged possession of a sexual performance by a child. Dutchess County resident Daniel (Danny) P. Popular Restaurant In Fairfield County Closes After Fire A fire in the ductwork of a popular Fairfield County restaurant caused the business to close. The fire, which took place around 11 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Asiana Cafe, located at 68 E. Putnam Ave., in Greenwich, has closed the establishment until further notice. The fire department said there was visible smoke coming from the ductwork in the rear of the building when they arrived on the scene. Fire Breaks Out At Long Island Ramada Inn A malfunctioning air conditioner caused a fire at a Ramada Inn on Long Island. The blaze broke out around 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Ramada Inn at 1000 Sunrise Highway in Baldwin, said the Nassau County Police. The fire was contained to one room and the fire department was able to extinguish it quickly, officials said. No guests or personnel were injured.
