Alert Issued After Bobcat Sightings Reported Near Two Schools In Fairfield County Two schools have cut recess for the week after a pair of bobcat sightings were reported. Officials with the Weston Public Schools sent out a letter to parents after they were warned by police about the sightings. The bobcat or cats were seen near the lower end of the Hurlbutt Elementary School and the Weston Intermediate School. Norwalk Man Charged After Driving With Open Can Of Beer In New Canaan, Police Say A man was busted for driving with an open can of beer in his vehicle in New Canaan. Jose Merino-Mejia, 40, of Norwalk, was arrested by New Canaan police after they received a report of a disabled vehicle on New Norwalk Road and Lakeview Road, police said. When officers approached the vehicle, they could smell alcohol and observed an open can of beer in the vehicle, police said. Merino-Mejia refused to take a breath alcohol test. 6-Year-Old Killed In I-84 Crash A 6-year-old chid was killed during a car crash on I-84 when the driver lost control and slammed into a wood sound barrier. Connecticut State Police said a 6-year-old Jayden Caraballo of East Hartford, was killed around 1 p.m. Monday between exit 58 and exit 59. According to police, Banis Claros, also of East Hartford and the child's mother, was driving eastbound on I-84 when the Toyota 4-Runner veered off the right side of the roadway. Gas Line Struck, Causing Route 59 Closure Contractors struck a natural gas line on Route 59 in Monsey, causing part of the roadway to be closed to traffic, according to Ramapo Police. The incident took place around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday in front of 156 Route 59, police said.
