Norwalk Man Charged After Driving With Open Can Of Beer In New Canaan, Police Say A man was busted for driving with an open can of beer in his vehicle in New Canaan. Jose Merino-Mejia, 40, of Norwalk, was arrested by New Canaan police after they received a report of a disabled vehicle on New Norwalk Road and Lakeview Road, police said. When officers approached the vehicle, they could smell alcohol and observed an open can of beer in the vehicle, police said. Merino-Mejia refused to take a breath alcohol test. Thefts From Vehicles In Trumbull Driveways Under Investigation Trumbull Police are investigating several thefts from vehicles that have occurred while the cars were parked overnight in residential driveways and other instances where stolen cars were recovered in those same areas. On Friday morning, Aug. 24, residents on Apple Orchard Lane and Oakridge Road found that their vehicles had been gone through and items were stolen during the overnight hours, said Trumbull Police Capt. That person, who hasn't come forward, purchased a winning Mega Millions lottery ticket for Friday's game and hit all the numbers. The ticket, purchased at the Wheels Convenience Store at 2047 Post Road in Fairfield had the winning numbers 1 - 6 - 13 - 18 - 49, Mega Ball 8 and Megaplier 2. 6-Year-Old Killed In I-84 Crash A 6-year-old chid was killed during a car crash on I-84 when the driver lost control and slammed into a wood sound barrier. Connecticut State Police said a 6-year-old Jayden Caraballo of East Hartford, was killed around 1 p.m. Monday between exit 58 and exit 59. According to police, Banis Claros, also of East Hartford and the child's mother, was driving eastbound on I-84 when the Toyota 4-Runner veered off the right side of the roadway. Gas Line Struck, Causing Route 59 Closure Contractors struck a natural gas line on Route 59 in Monsey, causing part of the roadway to be closed to traffic, according to Ramapo Police. The incident took place around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday in front of 156 Route 59, police said. The road is closed from Augusta Avenue to Remsen Avenue with a detour set-up to guide drivers. Woman's Legs Crushed Between Two Vehicles In Freak Orange County Accident A 34-year-old woman received serious leg injuries when she was crushed between two vehicles in Orange County in what police are saying is a "freak accident." The incident took place around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday on Mid Oaks Road in Monroe when the unidentified woman, who works for a cleaning company, walked out to one of two vehicles parked in an inclined driveway to retrieve supplies, said Monroe Police Sgt. Police Seek Suspect In Vandalism At Fairfield County Funeral Home Police are on the hunt for a man who for some reason has been destroying flowers and plants outside a Fairfield County funeral home. The department, which has released two videos, said the incidents took place on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 in front of Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home on Hamilton Avenue damaging plants and throwing potted flowers into the street, causing a mess in the roadway. State Police Seek Person Of Interest, 27, In Fire Set At Parents' Home State Police are asking the public for help in locating a man wanted in connection with a fire at his parent's home. The fire broke out around 2:37 a.m. Monday at 242 West Road, in Marlborough, said state police detectives with Troop K. Burglary, Larceny Suspect Extradited To Greenwich Now Behind Bars A 26-year-old man wanted for larceny and burglary is behind bars in Greenwich following extradition from Manhattan. Greenwich Police arrested Juan Bonilla-Arias of Jackson Heights in Queens on several warrants after traveling to New York City on Thursday, Aug. 23, to take him into custody. Juan Bonilla-Arias is facing a combined six counts for a burglary and larceny on Gaston Farm Road on Nov. 18, 2017. He is being held on $100,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 6.
