Police in Area Issue New Advisory About Return Of Phone Scam Beware. It's happening again. Those scam calls with a person on the other end saying one of your grandchildren have been in an accident, arrested or is in trouble and they need money to stay "out of court" are making the rounds once again. The suspects will then put a child on the phone that is usually crying and quickly asks the grandparent for help and then has the phone taken away. Cos Cob Man, 'Aggressor' In Fight That Injured Victim, Faces Assault Charge, Police Say A 36-year-old Fairfield County man was arrested for assault after injuring another man during a fight. Richard Drakeford Gonzalez of Cos Cob was arrested Tuesday by Greenwich Police after police responded to a report an assault, said Greenwich Police. Once on scene, investigators found that the victim and Drakeford Gonzalez were involved in a physical fight and that Drakeford Gonzalez was the aggressor, police said. Two Nabbed In Statewide Task Force Fentanyl Bust Two people were nabbed by the Connecticut State Police Task Force for allegedly selling fentanyl in large amounts. Leonardo Vazquez, of Hartford, was arrested Thursday on a warrant following an investigation by the Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force. As a result of the search warrant, detectives seized a large amount of fentanyl packaged for sale, crack cocaine, marijuana, numerous items related to narcotics sales and packaging, and one 9mm handgun. Police Investigate Robbery In Which Suspect Posed As Verizon Worker State police are on the hunt for a man who posed as a Verizon employee while visiting a home and then allegedly stole the homeowner's wallet. The incident took place around 11:10 a.m. Thursday on Scarborough Lane in the Town of Wappinger when state police said a middle-aged man knocked on the door of the home and said he had a "special upgrade package" to offer from Verizon. Fairfield County Man Charged With Making Harassing Phone Calls, Police Say A 61-year-old Fairfield County man was arrested for allegedly making numerous harassing phone and text messages to two victims. James Malone, a Westport resident, was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 22, after police received a complaint from the two victims, Westport Police said. The victims reported receiving vulgar, crude and harassing messages since March from Malone and had saved the texts. The investigating officer viewed text messages, police said. Injured Construction Worker Rescued By Firefighters In Fairfield County A construction worker had to be rescued after shoring gave way and fell on top of the man who was standing below. The incident took place Thursday at 1 Greyrock Place in Stamford when structural shoring being removed gave way, falling on a worker who was positioned below it, said Stamford Fire Capt. Despondent Man With Guns Taken Into Custody In Fairfield County, Police Say A man was taken into custody after police received a complaint from his girlfriend that he was despondent and armed with at least two weapons. The incident took place earlier Friday at a residence on Quail Street in Stratford when the woman told Stratford Police that the unidentified man was making irrational statements and he was armed with at least two weapons, said Capt. Fairfield County Felon Busted With Loaded Gun A Fairfield County felon who has a long rap sheet and has spent years in prison was busted with a loaded handgun, according to the Stamford Police. Kenneth Jefferies, 49, of Bridgeport, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after officers with the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit received word that he would be in the area with a gun and the hallucinogen PCP, said Stamford Police Capt. Husband, Wife From CT Killed In Vermont Glider Crash Two of three people who died Wednesday in a glider crash in Vermont have been identified as Connecticut residents. Husband and wife, Frank Moroz, 58, and Suzanne Moroz, 56, both of Hamden, died in the crash along with the pilot, Donald Post, 70, the owner of Stowe Soaring which operated the gliding business, said Adam Silverman, spokesman for the Vermont State Police.
