Fire Breaks Out After Lightning Strikes Tennis Club In Westchester Torrential rain and severe lightning hampered firefighters as they worked a two-alarm fire Thursday at a popular tennis club. The call came in around 4:30 p.m. Thursday for the fire at the Amackassin Club at 557 Palisade Ave. in Yonkers, said Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick. "A captain was nearby and within a minute he could see flames shooting out of the roof," Fitzpatrick. Teen Shot After Forcing His Way Into Neighbor's Home In Fairfield County An 18-year-old teen was shot by a neighbor after he forced his way into his home and violently attacked the man, police said. The incident took place around 6 p.m. Thursday when the teen forced his way into the home on Shelton Road in Trumbull and attacked the 72-year-old homeowner for no reason, said Trumbull Police Capt. Keith Golding. The homeowner, fearing for his family’s safety, shot the teen once, with his legally owned handgun, striking him in the abdomen, Golding said. Man, 39, Electrocuted While Removing Tree Leaves Behind Wife, Two Children A 39-year-old man who was electrocuted while removing a tree after hitting a live power line earlier this week leaves behind a wife and two children. John B. Nuzzolo, of Newburgh, died Monday around 9:17 a.m.while removing the tree at 29 Maple Road, in Cornwall-on-Hudson. He was an employee of the MTA, and the Long Island Railroad, and was a former member of Local 38. Nuzzolo is survived by his wife Syndi and his two children Aryanna and John. He was predeceased by his parents John and Bernice. Visitation will be held at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, on Friday, Sept, 7, from 2 p.m. …

Crews Battling Elements In Search For Injured Hiker At High Tor State Park Crews are working to rescue an injured hiker on a mountain at High Tor State Park in Rockland. The New City Fire Department, along with help from Rockland County Technical Rescue Team have been battling the weather conditions since around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, New City Fire Department officials confirmed. Officials requested a helicopter for help, but thunderstorms prevented the chopper from assisting. The placement, or condition of the hiker is not known. This is a developing story. Man Taken Into Custody In Connection To CT White Powder Scares, DOJ Says A New Haven man was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with numerous incidents of white powder being mailed to several federal and state offices and community organizations. Four Suspects Nabbed In Poughkeepsie Shooting Four men are behind bars following the shooting of a man in the area, police said. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when the City of Poughkeepsie Police began receiving numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired and a man down in the area of 82 Academy St., said Det. Lt. Matt Clark. Responding officers found a 36-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident shot multiple times. White Powder Incident Prompts Evacuation Of State Office Building Police are investigating at least four incidents involving white powder or suspicious packages Wednesday that led to evacuations and street closures. Two are believed to be baby powder, officials said.
