Kathy Reaks has worked as a reporter in the local news business since 1984, starting as a news clerk and working her way up. She spent 17 years at Florida Today in Melbourne, Florida as a general assignment reporter, crime reporter, entertainment reporter and restaurant critic. She worked four years at Hometown News as a general assignment reporter, then another two years at Spacecoast Daily in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She attended Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida.

Longtime Detective In Hudson Valley Dies Unexpectedly At 51 Aloysius F. McMahon of West Nyack, a longtime Rockland County detective, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 13. He was 51. McMahon was with the Rockland County Sheriff's Office and Corrections Division for 29 years, beginning in corrections in1989, and moved to the Patrol Division as an officer in 1996. He worked for the Rockland County Drug Task Force from 1998 to 1999 before becoming a well-known and respected crime scene detective in 1999 to present. NY Air Show Coming To Area This Weekend Airplane buffs will want to head to Stewart International Airport in Orange County this weekend to get a head-spinning thrill during the 2018 New York Air Show.The event runs Saturday, Sept. 15, and Sunday, Sept. 16, with gates opening at 9 a.m at the airport in New Windsor. Missing Woman Found Safe This story has been updated. A woman whose family reported her missing after she vanished for more than a day has been found. Family member Gissell Alarcon said Katy Ordonez-Garces of Fishkill was found late Friday afternoon safe and unharmed. She was last heard from around 10 a.m. Thursday when she spoke with a family member, saying she had a horrible headache, said Alarcon. When the family member rushed to her home, Ordonez-Garces was not there. She also didn't respond to text messages or phone calls, which the family said was highly unusual. Intruder Shot By Homeowner In Fairfield County A Fairfield County resident shot a man who he says was an intruder at his home, according to police. The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when a woman called 911 to report that her husband had just shot the person at their home, said Av Harris, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police. The 22-year-old man apparently left the area, and then called the police himself around 15 minutes later to say he had been shot, police said. 37-Year-Old Charged After Falling Through Window Of Popular Sports Bar In Area A 37-year-old man was arrested after falling through the front window of a popular sports bar in the area. Toy Christiansen was arrested Wednesday after police responded to the Crush Sports Bar, 1015 Bridgeport Ave., for a report of property damage, said Milford Officer Joseph Dempsey. When officers arrived on the scene they found that Christiansen, a Seymour resident, had damaged the window after falling into it, he said. He was charged with criminal mischief and released on a promise to appear ticket.

Northern Westchester Motorist With No Insurance Faces Drunk Driving Charge In Fairfield County A 46-year-old Northern Westchester man nabbed in Fairfield County for allegedly driving without insurance was also charged with driving drunk. Christopher Evers, of North Salem, was stopped around 1:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, on Route 7 in the area of Blue Ridge Road for failing to display registration, said the Wilton Police Department. During the stop, Evers was found to be driving a Toyota minivan with an expired NY temporary plate and no insurance. Company Owner In Area Indicted For Submitting Phony Reports A 39-year-old man was indicted for submitting phony inspection reports on behalf of an alarm company he owned in Rockland County. Ben Klein of Monsey was indicted by a grand jury on eight counts of offering false information for filing for not properly maintaining a fire alarm at a restaurant in the village of Spring Valley, said the Rockland County District Attorney's Office. Report Of Man With Weapons Prompts Police Sweep Of Building When word spread of a man with a gun through an office building in downtown Stamford, some workers locked themselves in their offices, while others hurriedly left the building. High School Football Coach Accused Of Having Relationships With Students A 25-year-old former assistant high school football and track coach in Connecticut has been arrested and charged with sexual assault for allegedly having "inappropriate relationships" with students.
