Area Man Killed When Motorcycle Hits Curve, Crashes An area man was killed after losing control of his motorcycle and hitting a guardrail. Carmin Quintero, 27, of Plesant Valley was killed just after 3 p.m. Sunday when he crashed on I-80 eastbound in Wharton, N.J., said New Jersey State Trooper Alejandro Goez. Quintero was riding a Honda motorcycle when he got off at Exit 34 and struck a curb, overturned and both he and his bike hit the guardrail, Goez said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, he added. No other vehicles were involved and Quintero was the only person involved, state police said.

Harding High School Placed On Lockdown After Threat Involving Firearm Warren Harding High School was placed on lockdown Monday following a threat involving a firearm, police said. The lockdown, which has been lifted, was issued Monday afternoon after someone allegedly made the threat, said Av Harris, a spokesman with the Bridgeport Police Department. First Bite Victim Of Asian Longhorned Tick Reported In Fairfield County The Tick Testing Laboratory at The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station is reporting the first evidence of a person in Fairfield County being bitten by the exotic east Asian longhorned tick. The longhorned tick is an invasive species that was initially discovered on a farm in New Jersey in 2017 and has subsequently been found in eight other states. It was most recently detected in Connecticut in July, said the CAES.  The newly discovered tick is a major livestock pest that feeds on a wide variety of mammals including humans, but it is not clear how often.
