As midnight Tuesday, police had responded to more than 6,000 calls for service, including 400 accidents, two that included fatalities. Officers said they also made 47 DUI arrests. Man Shoots, Kills Own Dog In Hamden A man shot and killed his dog at a park after it attacked another dog, sparking concern it might attack nearby children. The incident took place on Monday, Dec. 24, in the area of Brook Street and Wintergreen Avenue at an "off-leash," dog park, said Hamden Police Capt. Ronald Smith. Pearl River Crash Results In DWI Charge For 24-Year-Old A Pearl River man was busted for alleged drunk driving following a traffic crash, police said. Cesar Ruballos, 24, was arrested around 3:55 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, after Orangetown Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Crooked Hill Road in Pearl River, Sgt. Kirk Vega said. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Ruballos was driving drunk and transported him to the Orangetown Police headquarters where he refused to take a breathalyzer test. Ruballos was charged with DWI and released. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8, 2019.

Box Truck Crash Backs Up Traffic On New TZB A crash that slowed traffic for about an hour on the new Tappan Zee Bridge has been cleared, but there are still residual back-ups. The crash of a box truck took place around 1 p.m. Friday on the Westchester-bound side near Exit 13 in Tarrytown, said the New York State Police. Currently, the bus lane and shoulder southbound are closed for repairs to the side of the bridge where the truck hit, state police said.
