Fire Rips Through Home In East Fishkill An East Fishkill family lost everything in a fire that ravaged the home on Queen Anne Lane. The fire, which started around 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 16, was first reported as a tractor fire, but when East Fishkill firefighters arrived on scene they found the 3,500-square-foot home was engulfed in smoke and flames, said department officials. The fire reportedly destroyed about 90 percent of the home, but the two residents were able to escape unharmed, said a GoFundMe account set up to help the homeowners. Industrial Business Evacuated Following Chemical Spill In Shelton First responders were called to the scene of what they thought was a call for an explosion, but instead found a hazardous material spill in an industrial building. The incident took place in the early afternoon on Friday, May 17, at Milestone Inc., located at 25 Controls Drive in Shelton, said Shelton Police Det. Richard Bango. IDs Released For Victims In Double-Fatal I-84 Crash Two people who were killed in a single-vehicle crash on a busy stretch of I-84 during the morning commute have been identified. The crash took place around 6:41 a.m., Friday, May 17, on westbound I-84, when a Dodge Journey left the roadway and entered the enter median and struck a tree, said New York State Police Spokesman Steven Nevel. Killed in the crash were Heather Morgan, 36, and her passenger, Derick Jones, 37, both of Beacon. State Police are still investigating the crash, Nevel said. Coyote Sighting Outside Nearby Restaurant Prompts Students To Stay Indoors In Valhalla Valhalla students had to spend the day indoors after a coyote was spotted outside of Sergio's Restaurant. The district said in an email to parents around 9:30 a.m., Friday, May 17, that they made the decision to keep high and middle school students inside after the sighting, which was across the street from the schools at 301 Columbus Ave., Valhalla. Undercover Tobacco Check Nets Five Violations In Stratford Five Stratford businesses were fined after allegedly selling tobacco products to an underage decoy during an enforcement check. The enforcement on Wednesday, May 1, was conducted by the Stratford Police, along with members from the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, said Stratford Police Capt. Motorcyclist Caught With Loaded, Stolen Handgun After High-Speed Chase On LIE, Route 25 A Patchogue man is behind bars after taking police on a high-speed chase on the LIE and then on Route 25 before being captured by K9 officers. Man Admits To Sex Abuse Of Child In Area A 64-year-old man has pleaded guilty to having sex with a child under the age of 13 multiple times over the course of two years. Douglas Castro, of Warwick, pleaded guilty on Thursday, May 16, to course of sexual conduct against a child, said the Orange County District Attorney's Office. ID Released For Motorcyclist Killed In Two-Vehicle Crash In Suffolk County A 26-year-old Suffolk County motorcyclist killed during a two-vehicle crash on Route 25A in Ridge has been identified. Kodi Zwolinski, of Ridge, was driving a Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Route 25A, just east of the William Floyd Parkway, when his motorcycle rear-ended a 2001 Ford pickup driven by Marie Panhorst at approximately 12:20 p.m., Thursday, May 16, said the Suffolk County Police.
