Area Woman Charged With Welfare Fraud A 46-year-old woman was busted for welfare fraud following an investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and the Department Of Community and Family Services. Michelle Walcott, of Hyde Park, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 27, and charged with felony welfare fraud, said Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Capt. John Watterson. According to Watterson, the investigation found Walcott allegedly received $21,058 in SNAP benefits between January 2011 and December 2016 by concealing the fact that she co-owned property while reporting that she was paying rent. ID Released For Woman Killed In East Islip House Fire A woman who died in an overnight East Islip house fire has been identified by officials. Laurie Addeo, 61, a resident of the home, was killed when the fire started around 2:12 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, at the home at 3 Washington Ave., said the Suffolk County Police. Police said the five other residents of the home were able to escape unharmed. Detectives do not believe the cause of the fire is suspicious, police said. At least six fire departments responded to help battle the blaze including Islip Terrace, East Islip, Central Islip, Islip, Brentwood, and East Brentwood.

ID Released For 93-Year-Old Stamford Homicide Victim Police have identified a 93-year-old woman whose death has been ruled a homicide. Isabella Mehner was found dead at the bottom of a staircase leading into the basement of her Cove Road home in Stamford on Wednesday, Sept. 24, said Stamford Police Lt.
