Covid-19: Feds Sue Airmont For Religious Discrimination Against Orthodox Jewish Residents A federal lawsuit has been filed against the Village of Airmont to "rectify," the village's alleged effort to discriminate against its Orthodox Jewish community. Audrey Strauss, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, filed the suit on Wednesday, Dec. 2, claiming the village is preventing the community from its ability to worship and run schools. Passed Out Driver Flees Police, Crashes Vehicle In New Canaan, Police Say An erratic driver who fled from police in Fairfield County landed in the hospital following a crash. The incident took place around 1:47 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, when the New Canaan Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Ponus Ridge Road on a report of an erratic operator, said Lt. Jason Ferraro. Responding units observed a light-colored minivan stopped on Ponus Ridge Road with the operator initially unresponsive in the driver's seat, Ferraro said. Stamford Man Causes Damage To Girlfriend's Fairfield Home, Holds Police At Bay During Standoff A Fairfield County man was arrested after he was allegedly caught breaking windows at his girlfriend's home during a domestic dispute. Derek Pflueger, 40, of Stamford, was arrested around 10:15 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1, after Fairfield Police responded to a 911 call at a home on Kings Highway, said Lieutenant Antonio Granata. Four Charged With Crack Cocaine Distribution In Northern Westchester Four men have been arrested in connection with running a crack cocaine distribution ring in Northern Westchester County. According to Audrey Strauss, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, the men, Jordan Campbell, Derrick Dickey, Terrance Patterson, and Johnnie Thomas, were arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 2. As alleged in the indictment unsealed in White Plains federal court, the four conspired to distribute at least 280 grams or more of crack cocaine between March 2020 and August 2020. Six Charged For Scheme In Which 117 Turkish Moms Gave Birth To 119 Children On Long Island Six Long Island residents have been indicted for allegedly operating a “birth tourism” fraud and money laundering scheme. The six were indicted on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the federal courthouse in Central Islip, said the office of Seth D. DuCharme, Acting U.S. Attorney Eastern District of New York. One Dead, One Severely Injured In Two-Vehicle CT Crash One person was killed and another seriously injured during an early morning two-vehicle crash. The crash took place around 6:27 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, in Wolcott. Officers responded to the area of 250 County Road for a two-vehicle vehicle crash involving a Honda, occupied by two adults, and a pick-up truck with just the operator, Wolcott Police said. One Wounded In Norwalk During Shots Fired Incident Norwalk police are investigating a shooting in which one person received a minor gunshot wound. The incident took place around 11:45 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1 on Suncrest Road in Norwalk, said Lt. Jared Zwickler. Arriving officers found one victim with a minor gunshot wound. Detectives were called to the scene to investigate. The case remains under investigation by the Detective Bureau and anyone with information is asked to call Detective John Sura at 203-854-3011.

Former Dutchess County Legislator Dies At Age 88 Former Dutchess County Legislator Leonard Babiarz has died at the age of 88. Babiarz died Sunday, Nov. 29, from congestive heart failure, surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime Poughkeepsie resident, Babiarz loved to tell stories of his time as an altar boy at Saint Josephs, his paper routes across the city, selling war bonds during WW2, along with many memories of his time in the US Marine Corps, his long time membership and Presidency of the Polish American Citizens Club, and his 42-year career at Central Hudson, retiring in 1995, his obituary said.
