One Killed, Two Rescued In Two-Alarm Fire At CT Multi-Family Home
One person was killed and two others seriously injured during a fire in a multi-family home in Connecticut.
The New Haven Fire Department received word of the two-alarm fire around 2 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, at 151 Saltonstall Ave., in New Haven, said the New Haven Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they found a large working fire, with three people trapped on the top floor of the three-story building, the department said.
Firefighters were able to safely rescue two of the people using a ladder, but the third person, a woman, did not make it, they added.

LI Crash Yields Two Arrests, One For DWI, One For Spitting In Officer's Face, Police Say
Two people were arrested following a single-vehicle crash on Long Island -- one for DWI and the other for spitting in a police officer's face during their arrest.
Stephanie Caicedo, 25, of Orient, and Jesus Mendoza, 21, of Greenport, were arrested around 12:29 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, after Southold Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on route 25, in the area of Tuckers Lane, police said.
When officers arrived on the scene they found that vehicle involved in the crash had fled the scene but was located at a gas station on Main Bayview Road, police said.

Man Accused Of Assaulting 2-Year-Old Multiple Times In Area
An area man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a two-year-old child on multiple occasions, causing serious injuries.
Ulster County resident Stephen Drake, 30, of Ellenville, was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 30, after police responded to a home in Napanoch, on a report of the assault, said investigators from the Ulster County Family and Child Advocacy Center
An investigation revealed that Drake, on multiple occasions, assaulted the child, causing multiple bruising to the child’s face, back, buttocks, and both extremities, the department said.

Pedestrian In Critical Condition After Being Hit By Vehicle In Stamford
A pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Fairfield County.
The incident took place around 5:34 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 3, on West Main Street, in Stamford, said Stamford Police Sgt. Jeffrey Booth.
According to Booth, the crash took place when 67-year-old David Bond, of Stamford, was hit while crossing West Main Street by a 2012 Subaru Impreza driven by Matthew Coyne, 31, of Stamford, who was traveling eastbound on West Main.

Long Island Man Apprehended After Attempting To Murder Mother On Christmas Day, Police Say
A Long Island man has been apprehended after allegedly attempting to kill his mother on Christmas Day and then slitting his own wrists.
Frank Holecek, 71, of Hamptons Bay, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 25, after police received a 911 call from a residence in Hampton Bays for a person bleeding, according to authorities.
Responding officers arrived at the home and found a 97-year-old woman in the residence with her son, Holecek, with self-inflicted wounds to his wrists, Southampton Town Police Lt. Susan Ralph.
