Clarkstown Police Detective Frederick Parent Dies At 52 Clarkstown Police Detective Frederick J. Parent died Tuesday following a brief illness. He was 52. Clarkstown Chief Raymond McCullagh announced Parent's death on Facebook, saying Parent was "not only a solid detective but a true friend who will be missed by everyone in our building." He began his career with the Clarkstown Police Department in July of 1991 as a dispatcher. On July 29, 1996, Parent was sworn in as a police officer and he was issued badge #115. Croton Fire Department Mourns Loss Of 73-Year Member Salvatore Vasta Salvatore J. Vasta, Jr. of Croton-on-Hudson, a longtime member of the Croton Fire Department, died on Saturday, Nov. 11. He was 89. A 73-year member and former captain of the Harmon Engine Company No. 3, Vasta married his wife Patricia In 1951, and together they raised nine children.  A master mason for most of his life, Vasta also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and lived in Croton-on-Hudson his entire life. Route 9 just south of Rhinebeck is back open to traffic following a single-car crash that took out a utility pole, is reopen after almost 10 hours, according to the New York State Police. The crash, that took place at 12:43 p.m. Monday. caused numerous wires to block the roadway closing the road in both directions through the evening commute.
