Longtime Greenwich Resident Scott Kiernan, Former NFL Player, Dies At 43 A former NFL player from the area who was a team captain at Syracuse University has died at age 43. Scott Weston Kiernan, who grew up in Greenwich, died suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 4 in Clermont, Florida. A cause of death was not released. A former Syracuse football offensive lineman, Kiernan, was well known as the player who co-captained the 1998 Big East champions, before moving on to play for the NFL, first with the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers. Beacon Firefighters Handle Porta Potty Fire Firefighters face all kinds of emergencies. Sometimes it might be a blaze in a high-rise or a car crash, and then sometimes, it might be a fire in a porta potty. Chain Reaction, Four-Vehicle Wappingers Falls Crash Backs Up Traffic A four-vehicle crash in Wappingers Falls led to midday delays near Party City, according to state police. The crash, which occurred around 12:15 p.m. Thursday on Route 9 at Liss Road, was a chain reaction with the first car rear-ending the second, followed by two others who couldn't stop in time, said Trooper AJ Hicks. No one was injured and two vehicles were towed from the scene.

Hastings Girl Stabs Fellow Teen, Injures Adult, Police Say A 13-year-old girl staying at the Graham Windham residential center in Hastings-on-Hudson stabbed a fellow teenager there and injured a staff member. The event took place Friday, Jan. 12, when the teen attacked a staff member with a weapon, said Hastings-on-Hudson Police Lt. David Dosin. During the altercation, another student tried to intervene and suffered a "superficial" stab wound to the chest and a laceration to the hand, Dosin said. Crash Involving Nysta Truck Ties Up Traffic At I-287/I-87 This story has been updated. Motorists experienced delays on both I-287 and I-87 in Tarrytown due to a crash involving a New York State Thruway Authority truck. The crash, which occurred around 12:15 p.m. Thursday, initially resulted in one lane being closed where the two roadways meet, according to the New York State Police. Injuries were said to be minor, but traffic was congested due to the lane closure to deal with the disabled vehicles, state police said.

Historic Newburgh Home Damaged In Fire Something as simple as a working smoke detector could have made a huge difference in the outcome of a three-alarm fire that left a historic City of Newburgh home in ruins, according to City of Newburgh Fire Chief Terry Ahlers, "It's sad when one of the last pieces of Newburgh history of this type is claimed by fire," Ahlers said. Dog Dies, Five Firefighters Injured In Yonkers Fire An early morning fire in Yonkers caused by a space heater ended with the death of a dog and injuries to five firefighters. The initial call came in around 2:19 a.m. Thursday for what was believed to be an oil burner fire in a two-story wood frame residential dwelling at 10 Lewis St., said Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief Joseph DeLasho. The first units on the scene at 2:25 a.m. encountered fire on the first floor extending to the second floor and loft area, he said. Hyde Park Man Arrested For Stealing $30K From Employer A Hyde Park man is behind bars without bail after being arrested for stealing more than $30,000 from a Poughkeepsie business. Dennis C. Morgan was arrested Thursday, Jan. 11, following an investigation by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department after receiving a complaint from a local business of missing funds, said Capt. Kevin Faber. The theft took place over a five-month period in 2017 while Morgan was employed as the company's controller, Faber said. Police declined to name the business. Poughkeepsie Man Bites Officer's Hand During Arrest, Police Say A Poughkeepsie man is behind bars after biting a police officer who was trying to arrest him following a domestic dispute. Kevin Longobardi, 24, was arrested Friday, Jan. 12, by the Town of Lloyd police who responded to a call for domestic violence, said Lt. James Janso.
