She worked four years at Hometown News as a general assignment reporter, then another two years at Spacecoast Daily in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Brush Fire Burns 20 Acres In Arlington One firefighter was slightly injured and more than 30 firefighters battled a brush fire that burned more than 20 acres near Van Wagner Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie, according to Arlington Fire Chief Tory Gallante. Arlington firefighters responded to the fire around 5 p.m. Saturday for a report of black smoke from the woods behind the home at 342 Van Wagner Road, Gallante said. WestConn Closes Campus As Virus Spreads To More Than 100 Western Connecticut State University in Danbury is closed Monday due to more than 100 students suffering from a viral-like illness, the university said in a statement. John B. Woman, 20, Killed When Motorcycle Slams Into Car In Fairfield County A 20-year-old woman was killed in a crash after a car turned in front of the motorcycle she was a passenger on. Miranda Elienai, of Bridgeport, was killed around 7 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Park Avenue and Olive Street, said Av Harris, Bridgeport Police Department spokesman. Greenwich Lieutenant Named Officer Of Month Greenwich Police Lt. Eric Scorca was recognized Wednesday as the Greenwich Police Department’s Officer of the Month. Chief James Heavey recognized Scorca, a crisis negotiator, for successfully getting an armed suicidal man to put down his weapons and surrender to police during an incident last month. Man Who Killed Himself Sent Threatening Messages To Fairfield Women A Pennsylvania man who sent threatening, sexually graphic letters to four Fairfield women killed himself during a police standoff. Fairfield police believe Joseph Polin, 46, of Hazelton, Pa., who shot and killed himself last week after a five-hour standoff with police was responsible for putting four local women in fear for their lives, said Fairfield Lt. Man Throws Rock Through Window In Stony Point Domestic Dispute, Police Say A Stony Point man was arrested after throwing a rock through a window during a domestic dispute. Dominick Varano, 31, was arrested Wednesday after Stony Point police responded to a residence on Wayne Avenue regarding a domestic dispute, said Lt. Daniel Hylas. No injuries were reported in dispute, but there was property damage that was caused by Varano allegedly throwing a rock through a bedroom window of the residence, he said. Varano was charged with criminal mischief and bail was set at $100. He is set to appear in court on April 26.

Cos Cob Man Resists Arrest After Physical Assault, Police Say A Cos Cob man is behind bars after resisting arrest following a physical assault, said Greenwich Police. The incident took place around 3 a.m. Sunday when police responded to call of a physical assault on Post Road in Cos Cob, the arrest report said. According to the report, Frank Molina, 34, failed to comply with officer's instructions and “confronted officers in an aggressive manner.” He was forcibly restrained while being handcuffed, the report added. Molina was charged with assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He is being held on $10,000 bail.

Stamford Police Intercept Heroin Delivery At Local McDonald's Police busted a man with 102 bags of heroin after receiving intel that he would be delivering the drugs to a Stamford fast-food restaurant. Juan Torres Jr., 26, of Bridgeport, was scooped up by agents from the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit around 12:40 p.m. Thursday after receiving a tip he would be delivering heroin at the McDonald's on East Main Street, said Capt. Two Women Face Charges After Suspected Area Overdose Death Two women were arrested on felony drug charges following the overdose death of a Port Jervis man.
