Man Threatened To Kill Wife, Child By Driving Off Cliff In Area, Police Say With his 4-year-old daughter pleading with him from the backseat of a car, an Orange County man threatened to kill the little girl and her mother by driving off a cliff following a series of domestic violence incidents, police said. Warwick police said August Melish, 37, had beaten his wife the day before on April 22 at the family’s home in Greenwood Lake, said Lt. Thomas Maslanka. Man Trying To Avoid Cell Phone Ticket Leads Police On Chase In Stamford A Stamford man talking on a cell phone ended up with more than $700 in traffic tickets after refusing to stop for police. Robert Powell, 49, was spotted by an officer talking on his Wednesday on Greenwich Avenue, said Sgt. Brian Butler. When Powell noticed that the officer had spotted him, he sped up, went over a double-yellow line and through a red light in an attempt to get away, Butler said. He also passed a stopped school bus on the right side while children were getting off the bus. Luckily, Butler said, none of the children were hurt. The pursuit ended when Powell pulled into a home…

Propane Tank Explosion Causes Spring Valley House Fire This story has been updated. A house fire that broke out following an explosion of a propane tank in Spring Valley has been controlled. The fire, which started around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, also spread to a shed at 359 Roosevelt Ave., in Spring Valley, officials said. One Injured In I-87 Crash That Sends Vehicle Into Trees One person was transported to the hospital following a crash on I-87 in Cornwall, according to New York State Police. The crash occurred around 11:43 a.m. Thursday between a box truck and an SUV, sending one of the vehicles down an embankment into a stand of trees, state police said. One person trapped in the vehicle was removed by first responders. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, state police said. This is a developing story. Missing Suspect's Body Found Inside Explosion Site, Nine Officers Injured The body of a man who held police at bay for hours has been found inside the barn where a huge explosion took place, injuring nine police officers, said the Connecticut State Police. The event unfolded around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when a woman contacted North Haven police saying she had been held hostage for several days at her Quinnipiac Avenue home by her estranged husband, police said. Mahopac Brush Fire Sandwiched On Tree Line Threatens Home Mahopac firefighters spent several hours battling a fire located behind a home on Shinaya Court located near a heavily wooded tree line. The call for the fire came in around 3 p.m. Wednesday with the department responding within minutes, Chief Bill Nikisher was quick to call for reinforcements. Mahopac firefighters tried to sandwich the fire between the trucks but the tree line proved too dense and a mutual aid call was put out for Battalion 16 and Mahopac Falls to roll out with a brush truck and tanker. Brush Fire Burns Through Orangeburg For Hours More than seven fire departments spent several hours battling a brush fire in Orangeburg after police received a report of "an odor of smoke" in the area, according to the Orangetown Police. The call came in around 4:51 p.m. Wednesday reporting the smell near Tweed Boulevard on Clausland Mountain where responding officers found flames in the area of southwest Nike Lane, said Orangetown Sgt. School District In Westchester Installs Strobe Lights As Security Measure In an effort to keep students, parents, and visitors to Ossining schools safe during emergencies, the district has installed a new safety measure at a time when school shootings are becoming commonplace. Drive To Raise Funds For Funeral Expenses Of Deceased Westchester Toddler Good hearted residents and friends of the slain Mamaroneck toddler who died on Saturday during a domestic dispute have started a GoFundMe page to help her father, Steven Boyd, cover funeral expenses. Gabriella' Boyd died tragically when police were called to a domestic incident involving her knife-wielding mother at the 2 1/2-year-old girl's grandmother's home. Police found Gabriella injured and when two officers tried to help her, they were stabbed by her mother before an officer shot and injured her.
