Truck Fire Causes Closure Of Busy Roadway In Westport A truck fire closed the Newtown Turnpike in Westport for more than an hour on Wednesday, May 29. Westport firefighters responded to the call for a fire in the back of a pickup truck around 5:48 a.m., the department said. Arriving companies, including two fire engines and the shift commander, found a pick-up truck in the roadway on fire.  Firefighters quickly stretched a fire hose line and doused the fire within minutes, the department said.
