Lightning Strike Burns Electrical Panel At Area Home An intense thunderstorm over the weekend in the Rhinebeck area kept firefighters on the run, especially when a house was struck by lightning. The incident took place around 2:56 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, on Montgomery Street off Route 9 in Rhinebeck, said Rhinebeck Fire Department Spokesman Jeff Cotter. Arriving crews encountered smoke showing from the eaves of the home and a significant amount of smoke throughout the house, Cotter said. Roadway Closed, Truck Driver Injured Following Crash Into Rock Wall In West Nyack Strawtown Road is closed in West Nyack after a box truck crashed and flipped over a rock wall. The incident took place around 8 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6., at Strawtown Road and Demarest Avenue in West Nyack, said the Clarkstown Police. The driver sustained minor injuries and is being attended to by Nanuet Ambulance & Medic 5, police said. Police are awaiting a heavy-duty tow truck and Orange & Rockland Utilities to arrive on the scene before the roadway can be reopened. This is a developing story. Fourth Suspect In $17K Wilton Jewelry Story Heist Arrested The fourth and final suspect wanted in a jewelry heist has been arrested by Wilton Police. Jorge Miranda, 39, of Astoria, was arrested on Monday, Aug. 5, at Green Haven Correctional in New York, for his part in the 2017 heist at an area jewelry store, said the Wilton Police. Miranda, who had just finished serving another sentence was extradited back to Wilton to face larceny charges for the alleged theft of more than $17,000 in jewels from Campus Jewelers in Wilton Center. One Dead In Shooting At Housing Complex In Westchester, Police Say One person was killed and another seriously injured during a shooting at a housing complex in Westchester overnight. Police became aware of the shooting around 12:35 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, after receiving numerous 911 calls of a shooting in progress in the area of 9 Weber Drive, said Port Chester Police Chief Richard Conway. Scam Uses Norwalk Superior Court Phone Number To Demand Cash Court officials are warning residents of an arrest scam after receiving numerous reports of calls requesting money for bail for a loved one who has been arrested. The caller-ID for the calls shows the Norwalk Superior Court as the origin of the call, the state Judicial Branch said in an alert to the community. According to the court, the callers are claiming that loved ones are locked up and they need to immediately provide a credit card number for bail. Police Search For Suspect After Bicyclist Seriously Injured In Greenwich Hit-Run Crash A bicyclist was seriously injured during a hit-and-run crash in Greenwich. It happened around 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, at the intersection of North Street and Fairfield Road when the bicyclist was struck by a black vehicle and sustained serious injuries, said the Greenwich Police. The black vehicle was last seen driving eastbound on Fairfield Road, police said. Cell Phone Sale End With Robbery, Chase On I-95 A man attempting to purchase a cell phone who was robbed of his cash attempted to follow the suspects by chasing them on I-95. The incident took place around 4:28 p.m., Monday, July 8, when the man went to the area of Saugatuck Avenue near I-95 to purchase a cell phone through a deal he had made with an acquaintance online, Westport Police said.
