Long Island 21-Year-Old Killed After Car Crashes Into Tree A 21-year-old Long Island man was killed after crashing his vehicle into a tree overnight. Melvin Dominguez, of Cutchogue, died about 10:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 6, on Route 48, said the Southold Police Department. According to police, Dominguez was driving eastbound on Route 48 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on the south side of the roadway.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Additional information was not immediately available. New Canaan Police Officers Honored For Saving Person Who Was Not Breathing Two New Canaan officers are being recognized for recently saving a person who was having difficulty breathing and had lost consciousness. According to New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski, Sgt. Aaron LaTourette and Officer Matthew Blank arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the call.  Once on the scene, the two quickly determined that the patient was not breathing and had no pulse.  The officers deployed an automatic external defibrillator, which administered a shock.
