Man Wanted For Sexually Abusing Child In Area Nabbed Out Of State, Police Say A man wanted in the area for the sexual abuse of a child under 13 years old was nabbed in the state of Florida and returned to face charges in the Hudson Valley. Edwin Rodriguez, 35, of Newport Richey, Florida, was wanted by New York State Police and the Orange County Child Protective Services for sexual contact with the child, said Trooper Steven Nevel. New Warning Issued For Latest Scam In Fairfield County In that past several weeks, numerous law enforcement agencies, across several states, including in Fairfield County, are reporting a new scam targeting elderly victims or "grandparent scams." Man Hit By BMW, Shot Behind Row Of Long Island Businesses Police are investigating an incident during which a man was struck by a vehicle and then shot, leading to school lockouts on Long Island. According to detectives, the incident took place around 10:20 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Patchogue, said the Suffolk County Police. During the incident, a 35-year-old man was struck by a BMW and then shot by the driver of the vehicle. Detectives believe the incident is related to an earlier dispute, police said. Dead, Living Cats Found At Feces-Filled Long Island Home Horrible and horrendous were the words used to describe a Long Island home that was found filled with cats, both dead and alive. The situation inside the home located on Trafalgar Square in Valley Stream came to light on Tuesday, Feb. 11, when the woman living inside had some type of emergency and a neighbor called for help, said Det. Teen Charged With Shooting 20-Year-Old In Area A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly shooting a man in the area. The incident took place around 8:36 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, when Dutchess County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call on Clay Hill Road in the Village of Tivoli, said authorities. Remains Found Near Area Diner Confirmed To Be Woman Who Went Missing A skull and human remains found behind an area diner have been confirmed to be that of a missing woman. Sheriff's deputies responded to the Putnam Diner on Saturday, Feb. 1, on Route 22 in Patterson after receiving a call that a human skull had been found in the woods, said the Sheriff's Office. Man Arrested For Burglary Of Area Religious Academy, Police Say A man has been arrested in connection with a burglary at an area religious academy. Rockland County resident Aharon Greenfield, 34, of Monsey, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 12, for the burglary that took place on Friday, Jan. 31, said Clarkstown Police Office Norman Peters. Person Found Dead In Driver's Seat After Fiery Route 9W Crash, Police Say One person was killed following a single-vehicle crash and fire on a section of Route 9W. It happened in Orange County around 12:38 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, on the southbound side in Cornwall, said Cornwall Police Chief Todd Hazard. When officers arrived on the scene they found the vehicle fully engulfed in fire, the chief said. Dog Attacks Toddler, Seriously Injures Good Samaritan In Area A 20-year-old man on his way to court in a cab has been identified as the owner of a pit bull that attacked a 1-year-old child and then seriously injured a Good Samaritan. Daveaun Whittle, of Haverstraw, was in a cab on the way to court on Jan. 7, when, thinking he might be sent to jail, let the dog loose in Spring Valley hoping it would find a home, said Spring Valley Police Officer Matthew Galli.
