Remains Found Near Area Diner Confirmed To Be Woman Who Went Missing A skull and human remains found behind an area diner have been confirmed to be that of a missing woman. Sheriff's deputies responded to the Putnam Diner on Saturday, Feb. 1, on Route 22 in Patterson after receiving a call that a human skull had been found in the woods, said the Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they were met by a 35-year-old Carmel man who told deputies he was walking through the woods when he saw what he believed to be a human skull, the department said. Man Arrested For Burglary Of Area Religious Academy, Police Say A man has been arrested in connection with a burglary at an area religious academy. Rockland County resident Aharon Greenfield, 34, of Monsey, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 12, for the burglary that took place on Friday, Jan. 31, said Clarkstown Police Office Norman Peters. The incident occurred at Ashar Adolph Schreiber Hebrew Academy, at 360 New Hempstead Rd. in New City, he said. Person Found Dead In Driver's Seat After Fiery Route 9W Crash, Police Say One person was killed following a single-vehicle crash and fire on a section of Route 9W. It happened in Orange County around 12:38 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, on the southbound side in Cornwall, said Cornwall Police Chief Todd Hazard. When officers arrived on the scene they found the vehicle fully engulfed in fire, the chief said. The fire was extinguished by the Cornwall Fire Department and the single occupant was found dead in the driver's seat, Hazard said. Dog Attacks Toddler, Seriously Injures Good Samaritan In Area A 20-year-old man on his way to court in a cab has been identified as the owner of a pit bull that attacked a 1-year-old child and then seriously injured a Good Samaritan. Daveaun Whittle, of Haverstraw, was in a cab on the way to court on Jan. 7, when, thinking he might be sent to jail, let the dog loose in Spring Valley hoping it would find a home, said Spring Valley Police Officer Matthew Galli. The Ulster County resident was found around 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, after Kingston Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Sheehan Court, police said. The Greenwich Police Department's Animal Control Section said the distressed animals were dispatched for humanitarian reasons. Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest For Area Man A 27-year-old man was nabbed on alleged possession of drug charges following a traffic stop. Francisco Soares, of Derby, was arrested on Friday, Feb. 7, by Milford Police after being stopped by the department's TAC Unit on an anti-crime patrol in the area of Old Gate Lane. Man Disseminated Nude Photos Without Permission, State Police Say A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly disseminating nude photos without permission. Ulster County resident Michael Redding, of Lloyd, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 11, and charged with two counts of unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image, said New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel.
