Two Hospitalized After Crash On Candlewood Lake Road Two people were injured following a two-vehicle crash in Fairfield County. The crash took place around 6:45 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at the intersection of Candlewood Lake Road and Huckleberry Hill Road in Brookfield, said the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company. At the time of the crash, a member of the fire department witnessed the event and immediately called for assistance. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found two occupants trapped in a vehicle, the department said. Increase In Counterfeit Currency Cases Reported In Putnam County An increase in the use of counterfeit money has been reported in Putnam County. Currently, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office is investigating several cases in which counterfeit $100 bills are being used to make smaller purchases at convenience stores, drug stores, and eateries, the department said. The small purchase being made allows the suspects to walk away with legal money leaving their unsuspecting victims short financially, the department said. During a press conference on Wednesday, Feb. 26, health and government officials said there are no confirmed cases of the virus in Nassau County.  However, there are 83 people who are "self-isolating" as requested by the Nassau County Health Department due to visiting mainland China within the past 14 days, said Health Commissioner Dr. Larry Eisenstein. James McDonald, of Fairfield, picked up his "big check" on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the state lottery headquarters in Rocky Hills. McDonald, who purchased his ticket at the Cumberland Farms store in Fairfield, matched five numbers to win the game's largest payout.  The odds of matching all five numbers are one in 324,632, lottery officials said. McDonald declined to tell his "lottery" story or have his picture taken.

Ramon Capacete, of Seymour, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 24, in Shelton after police officer John Kekac stopped his vehicle for running a red light on Bridgeport Avenue, said Shelton Police Det. Three-Car Crash Injures Four After Driver Allegedly Runs Stop Sign In Area Four people were injured in a three-vehicle crash after the driver of one of the vehicles allegedly ran a stop sign. The crash took place around 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Rockland County at Wilder Road and Lime Kiln Road, in Wesley Hills, said the Ramapo Police. Ramapo police said that the driver of one of the vehicles failed to stop at the stop sign on Lime Kiln Road and struck two vehicles on Wilder Road. Four people were transported to a local hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries, police said. That driver was issued several summonses.
