Covid-19: Suffolk County PD Lieutenant Becomes First Department Member To Die From Virus The Suffolk County Police Department is mourning the loss of active duty member Lt. Robert Van Zeyl who died from COVID-19 on Wednesday, Jan. 20. One Killed In Crash Between School Bus, Vehicle In Area, Police Say One person was killed during a crash between a school bus and a passenger car in the area. The crash took place around 1:34 p.m. on Route 9D at Red Schoolhouse Road in the Town of Fishkill, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks. There were no children on the bus at the time of the crash. Police did not reveal if the person killed was on the bus or in the vehicle. Pedestrian Critically Injured In Long Island Crash A pedestrian is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle on Long Island. The incident took place around 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Coram when a 2011 Ford van, driven by Harold Egbert, struck a man in front of 100 Middle Country Road, said the Suffolk County Police. The pedestrian was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. His identification is being withheld pending notification of kin. Police Officer Fired For Using Excessive Force In Bridgeport A longtime police officer has been fired for using excessive force during an arrest. Police Asking For Help Identifying Suspect In Best Buy Robbery In Fairfield County Police are asking the public for help identifying a man wanted for allegedly stealing numerous items from a Best Buy in Fairfield County. The incident took place around 2:36 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, when a man entered the Best Buy store, located at 330 Connecticut Ave, in Norwalk, and stole a Garmin GPS and two Nextbase Dash cameras, said Sgt. Attempted Rape Conviction Of Area Man Caught In An Online Sting Upheld By Courts The attempted rape conviction of a Hudson Valley man has been upheld by the courts during an appeal of his 2019 guilty verdict during a jury trial. Covid-19: CT Man Charged For Not Wearing Mask Entering Courthouse, State Police Say A Connecticut man was arrested by state police for allegedly refusing to wear a face mask while inside a courthouse amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Pedro Borrero, age 36, of New Haven, was arrested on Friday, Jan. 15, when Connecticut State Police responded to the New Haven Superior Courthouse located at 121 Elm Street, in New Haven, for a complaint of a disturbance.
