Kathy Reaks has worked as a reporter in the local news business since 1984, starting as a news clerk and working her way up. She spent 17 years at Florida Today in Melbourne, Florida as a general assignment reporter, crime reporter, entertainment reporter and restaurant critic. She worked four years at Hometown News as a general assignment reporter, then another two years at Spacecoast Daily in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She attended Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida.

Carlos Alfaro, 22, of Roosevelt, will be arraigned Wednesday, Feb. 19,  with two counts of second-degree murder, said the Nassau County Police. Teen Charged With Attacking School Police Officer At High School, Police Say An 18-year-old Fairfield County teen has been arrested for attacking a school resource officer at an area high school. Stefan Thomas, of Stratford, was arrested following an altercation at Stratford High School on Thursday, Feb. 13, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti. According to Eannotti, during the incident Thomas refused to leave the school property when directed by the school staff and the school resource officer. Mahwah Driver, 32, Killed In NY Crash A 32-year-old Mahwah man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Orange County, NY early Tuesday, authorities said. Joseph R. Farina was headed east on School Road in Monroe when his 1996 Toyota Avalon collided with a westbound 2013 Acura TL driven by 67-year-old Patrick J. Early of Warwick around 7:20 a.m., New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel said. Farina was pronounced dead at the scene, the trooper said.  An investigation was continuing, he said.

ID Released For 32-Year-Old Man Killed In Orange County Crash A 32-year-old man killed during a two-vehicle crash in Orange County has been identified.  Bergen County resident Joseph R. Farina, of Mahwah, was killed around 7:20 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, following the crash on School Road in the town of Monroe, said New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel. According to Nevel, Patrick J. Early, 67, of Warwick, was driving a 2013 Acura TL west on School Road when he was involved in a collision with a 1996 Toyota Avalon traveling east being operated by Farnia. Farina was pronounced dead at the scene.  An investigation is ongoing.
