Utility Pole Crash Closes Northbound Route 17 Overnight
A driver walked away unscathed after an SUV split a utility pole outside a Route 17 service station in Ramsey overnight, responders said. The northbound highway was initially shutdown at East Allendale Avenue following the 1:30 a.m. crash at the QuickChek station. Firefighters tended to the vehicle, while police and members of Ramsey Rescue and Ramsey EMS tended to the victim. A man being arrested for shoplifting and causing a disturbance at a Sussex County QuickChek thrashed and spit at officers taking him into custody, police said. Jeremiah S. Barnes, of Elmwood Park, had been asked to leave QuickChek on Rt. 206 in Stanhope when he resisted arrest and began thrashing and spitting at officers on Nov. 23, Byram Township Police said. A Morris County man was intoxicated when he drove the wrong way on Route 10 and parked at a nearby QuickChek, authorities charged. Lester Caseres-Betancourt, 25, was seen driving the wrong way down Route 10 before coming to a stop in the parking lot of QuickChek on South Jefferson Road on Dec. 4, Hanover Police Chief Mark D.
