South River High School Closes Due To Police Investigation South River High School is closed Thursday, June 12, due to an active police investigation, authorities said. The other South River Public Schools remain open and are operating on a normal schedule, South River police said. ."Due to the nature of the active investigation, no further details can be released at this time," police said. "However, there is no threat to student or public safety." The school district said "all is safe on campus."

Mount Laurel Family Loses Home After Fatal Car Crash Sparks Blaze: Fundraiser The Rezvine family is picking up the pieces after a fatal crash led to a fire that destroyed their two-story Mount Laurel home on Tuesday, June 10, according to a campaign set up to support the family. Longtime Newark Police Officer Paul Hamilton Dies At 49 Paul Hamilton, a longtime police officer in Newark, died Saturday, June 7, at the age of 49, according to his obituary. Known for his sense of humor and love of practical jokes, Hamilton enjoyed playing basketball, Scrabble and especially loved spending time with his family, taking trips to Wildwood and Disney, his obituary reads. Man Killed In Newark Double Shooting: Prosecutor A 26-year-old man was killed in a double shooting in Newark on Wednesday afternoon, June 11, authorities said. At 4 p.m., Karon Gray sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen at 858 South 17th St. in Newark, a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Gray was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m., authorities said. Another man sustained a gunshot wound to his arm, authorities said.
