19-Year-Old Nabbed Out Of State For Area Rape, Police Say A 19-year-old man is behind bars for an alleged sexual assault after being caught out of state. The Orange County resident, Alex J. Oliveras, of Pine Bush, was nabbed by in Virginia on a warrant for a sexual assault in the Town of Montgomery, said Town of Montgomery Police Investigator Stephen Ragni. Oliveras is accused of committing the sexual assault before fleeing the area, Ragni. Oliveras was charged with first-degree forcible rape/compulsion and is being held at the Orange County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Stop Of Suspicious Vehicle Leads To Discovery Of 100 Pieces Of Stolen Mail, Darien Police Say A stop of a suspicious vehicle by police led to the discovery of more than 100 pieces of stolen mail. The incident took place in Fairfield County around 2:51 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, when officers assigned to the midnight shift were notified by a Darien resident of two men on his property, said Darien Police Sgt. Covid-19: Here's Latest Rundown Of Rockland County Cases By Municipalities Rockland County continued to see new, but now moderate amounts, of cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). On Tuesday, May 5, 46 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of cases to 12,144 since the pandemic began, according to the state Department of Health. There have been 551 deaths from the virus in the county, Rockland County Health officials said. There are currently 169 people hospitalized that are confirmed, a slight increase; and 15 hospitalized cases that are under investigation. Rockland Mourns Death Of County Clerk Paul Piperato Shock and sadness have been expressed across the region as news spread of the sudden death of an area county clerk. Paul Piperato, 61, Rockland County's Clerk, was known for his love of the county and his support of local organizations, died Wednesday morning, May 5, at home. Body Found Inside Rockland Home Destroyed By Fire, Police Say One person was found dead inside a home that was engulfed in flames when police arrived. The fire in Rockland County was discovered around 1:06 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, when Ramapo Police responded to a report of a structure fire at North Pascack Road and Ewing Avenue in Hillcrest. ID Released For Man Who Died In House Fire A 93-year-old man who died in a house fire has been identified by police. George W. Hanson was found inside his Dutchess County home following the fire that was reported around 10:22 p.m., Thursday, April 30, on Tamarack Drive in Hopewell Junction, according to East Fishkill Police Lt. Derrick Cuccia. When police arrived on the scene, the residence was fully engulfed in flames, Cuccia said. Fire Reported At Greenwich Hospital, Officials Say A fire has been reported at an area hospital treating many with patients with novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The blaze began around 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at Greenwich Hospital, the Greenwich Fire Department said on Twitter. The fire was reported in a generator area and involved some debris in a shaftway, the department said. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within minutes, officials said on Twitter. Covid-19: Rockland Institutes Hiring Freeze Due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Rockland County is instituting an immediate hiring freeze to help mitigate the fiscal damage of the pandemic. County Executive Ed Day said Tuesday, May 5, the freeze would be placed on all positions within the county government.
